About

Justin Krumlauf

Justin was born in New York, but was raised most of his life in south western Fairfield County. Over many years, Justin has developed intimate an knowledge of his home waters - the Mianus, Mill, and Norwalk rivers. As well as the local saltwater fishery.

Justin is also an avid fly tyer. From bass bugs to tiny midges, he spends much of his free time improving his tying skills and techniques.

When he's not fishing or tying flies for his next trip, Justin teaches in and manages Greenwich Country Day School's Fabrication Lab and Makerspace. Justin also spearheaded GCDS's fly fishing intersession program entitled - The Art and Design of Fly Fishing. Students studied prominent conservationists, fly tyers, and anglers as well as visited the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum and the Angler's Club of New York. In the course's most current iteration, students primarily focused on developing fly tying technique. With guests such as Capt. Ian Devlin, Gunnar Brammer, and Mark Burns, students quickly became competent and skilled tyers. Additionally, they dove into various conservation issues facing our local water rivers and streams. This lead us to speaking with Luyen Chou, the creator of GotOne, about the conservation of Striped Bass. GotOne is an app that uses AI and user submitted photos to help scientists further understand Striped Bass behavior and migration patterns. Not to mention it's a phenomenal fishing log! Finally, to cap off the course, the class took a trip to the Legends on the Farmington River Lodge - a beautiful bed & breakfast on the banks of the Farmington River.

Justin is also an active board member and volunteer of the Trout Unlimited Mianus Chapter.
